Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) offers undergraduates the opportunity to participate in materials research projects for ten weeks during the summer. Students receive a specific research project assignment, and work closely with faculty, post doctorates, and graduate students. Seminars, lunches, and events are coordinated for undergraduates to work and socialize. Many MRSECs focus this program on students from primarily undergraduate institutions. Opportunities for forefront research in these institutions are often limited or unavailable. The REU program further encourages graduate and professional careers in science. Women and members of under- represented minorities are especially welcome.
The Center for Materials for Information Technology at the University of Alabama invites high school sophomores and juniors to apply for a summer research internship in nanoscience and engineering. The students will join the nanoscience and engineering research team and do basic research on new materials for high density information storage or new catalysts for fuel cells.
