Dr. Garry W. Warren is a Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1978 and spent eight years as a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University before coming to The University of Alabama in 1986. Recent research projects include: corrosion behavior of NdFeB permanent magnets, corrosion and archivability of metal particle recording media, use of electrochemical techniques to evaluate the protective ability of polymer coatings (e.g. binders in magnetic tape), and the corrosion of Ti-Al intermetallics. Dr. Warren has published over 70 papers on these and other topics. He is a member of several professional societies including the IEEE Magnetics Soc. and the Minerals, Metals, and Materials Soc., and is especially active in the latter where he serves on the Board of Directors.
